Welcome to the board... Another La face lol ( I came from La as well)

Fishing the Kern depends if you want to fish the upper or the lower, I personally prefer the upper kern, but there are tons of good places to fish, in both the upper and the lower.
My advice to you is to just get out there and explore the areas, there are tons of places to fish out there.
Some of the more established capmrpunds in the lower and upper are good places to start off with.
(the key is to move around; buy some hiking shoes because your going to be moving abound alot in the river)

Start out in Kernville, go north over the bridge up the river, then pick your place to fish.

I went to Kernville with a micro light set up, walked down under the bridge and then walked about 1/4 mile north till I saw a rock very accessable in the middle of the river. I got on that rock and casted a single salmon egg on a red gamagatzu egg cradle hook with a small split shot about 2 feet from the hook. I saw this monster jump out from under a boulder and...

The rest is history.
